• Question: Just wondering, do you have any tips for applying wingtip eyeliner or any go-to tutorials? Your eyeliner is always so on point! - justwantdogs
  • Answer:

Helloooo! A. Thank you, that is the kindest thing to say hahaha.

    B. Actual tips for eyeliner:

First, I always use liquid eyeliner for winged eyeliner—it’s a lot more forgiving (it can be q-tipped off easily if you make a mistake) and I find that it’s better in making sharp-tipped strokes.

Second: A really important part of applying eyeliner is having the right brush/pen/etc. Find what works for you. I like Felt-Tip eyeliner pens the best, and when I first started experimenting with make up I found it was definitely the easiest to use to apply. The pointed tip allows a higher level of precision and thinner strokes, whereas, at least from my experience, applying liquid eyeliner with a brush (especially for cat-eyes/winged eyeliner/etc) is a loooot harder.

My favorite felt tip eyeliners are Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner: Here (I haven’t tried any colors beyond Intense Black but they are all so lovely!)

and Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner in Black-Brown: Here

Obviously Stila is a lot more expensive and I only buy it every once in a while, but I do like it a lot. However, I don’t think the Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner is any better or worse than Stila (but I do like the fact that Stila is a pen whereas Revlon is more of a wand and a lil pot of liquid eyeliner).

Third: Q-Tips and Primer are ur best fraaaand. For real, I use primer on my eyelids every day and it helps both eyeshadow and eyeliner stay in place. I use ELF Primer in sheer: Here

It’s super cheap and gets the job done. It helps create a smooth eyelid canvas, if you will, and prevents eyeshadow from creasing and eyeliner from smudging by preventing your eyelids from getting oily. Additionally, Q-Tips are SUPER helpful when dipped in a teensy bit of make-up remover. I use q-tips to clean up messy edges/smudges/etc, because everybody makes mistakes—especially with liquid eyeliner. That way, you can fix a mistake without having to start all over again. Like so: Here

Fourth: When applying, I like to use my fingertip to lift my eyelid slightly—when the skin is pulled up a bit it’s easier to get closer to the lashline and be more precise. Like so: here. Additionally, when applying, I first draw a thin line/basic liquid eyeliner over my lash line. Then, I do the diagonal/winged part, and then I fill in. Sort of like this: here

Most importantly: Practice! Practice for fun before you go to bed or on a day when you know you won’t see anybody—that way if you mess up, it doesn’t matter. I do my eyeliner (and therefore practice doing my eyeliner) every day and that’s the only reason I’m any good at it. :)

I hope this was helpful love!! xo
